Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Site Medic about your use of this website and service. By creating an account or using Site Medic you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use it. How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.

1. The service

Site Medic checks websites for broken links and related problems (redirects, SEO, security headers, certificates and similar). You add a website as a project, we crawl it with our crawler, and we show you what we found. Which features you get, and limits such as the number of projects, pages per crawl, crawl depth, crawl history and how often a crawl may run, depend on your plan and are listed on the My Plan page. We may change the service and its plans over time. Paid plans and how they are charged are described in section 8.

2. Your account

You must be at least 18 years old, or old enough to make a binding contract where you live, and give us accurate details.
You must confirm your email address before you can log in.
Keep your password secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so tell us at once if you think someone else has got into it.
One person or organisation may not use several accounts to get around the limits of a plan.

3. Only check sites you are allowed to check

Our crawler visits the sites you add and the pages they link to. You promise that for every website you add to Site Medic, and every page you ask Page Shots to capture, you either own it or have permission from its owner to check it. We cannot verify ownership, so this promise matters: if a site owner complains, we may stop crawling that site and suspend the account that added it.

Our crawler identifies itself honestly and obeys robots.txt. A project setting lets you ignore robots.txt. Use it only on sites you own or run, and never to crawl a site whose owner has asked to be left alone. Page Shots, which opens a page in a browser (so it runs the page's scripts) to take screenshots of it, has no such setting: it always obeys robots.txt, and only captures web pages.

4. Acceptable use

You must not:

use Site Medic to attack, overload, probe for weaknesses in, or gain unauthorised access to any site, or to hide such activity;
use it to harass anyone, to collect personal data from other people's sites, or to break any law;
try to make our crawler request internal or private addresses, or to reach anything other than public websites;
interfere with the service, get around rate limits, plan limits or other protections, or probe our systems for weaknesses;
resell or republish the service, or use automated means to sign up or log in, without our written agreement.

5. Your data and ours

You keep all rights in your websites and in the details you give us. You give us permission to fetch the sites you add, and to store and process what we find, in order to provide the service to you. The service itself, including its software, design, name and logo, belongs to us. These terms do not give you any rights in it beyond using it as described here. The reports we produce for your projects are yours to use and share.

6. Results and availability

We work to make our checks accurate, but a crawler sees only what a server answers at that moment. Sites change, and servers behave differently for different visitors, so a result can be wrong or out of date. Treat the results as a guide and check important findings yourself. We do not promise that the service will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, and we may take it down for maintenance.

7. Suspension and ending

You can stop using Site Medic at any time and ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or end your account, or stop crawling a site, if you break these terms, if a site owner reasonably complains, if we must to comply with the law, or to protect the service or other people. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why. Sections that by their nature should continue after the account ends, such as sections 5, 6, 9 and 10, do so.

8. Paid plans and payment

Paid plans are subscriptions, billed in advance every month or every 12 months, as you choose, at the price shown on the My Plan page when you subscribe. Prices include any tax that applies.
Payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, until you cancel. We will tell you before a price change takes effect, and it applies from your next renewal.
You can cancel at any time from the My Plan page (Manage billing). If you cancel, you keep your plan until the end of the period you have paid for, and then move to the Free plan. We do not refund the unused part of a period, or give a partial refund, except where the law requires it.
If a payment fails, your account moves to the Free plan straight away, and returns to your paid plan when the payment succeeds. Your projects are kept, but the Free plan's limits apply meanwhile: for example you cannot add more projects than the Free plan allows, and older crawl history beyond its limit may be removed when your next crawl finishes.
A promotion code gives the discount it describes when you enter it at checkout, for as long as it says (for example the first payment only, or for every payment). When the discount ends, the price goes back to the normal price. A code cannot be used together with another, and has no cash value.
When you change from one paid plan to another, what is charged is shown to you before you confirm the change.

9. No warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we give no warranties of any kind about it, express or implied, including that it will suit your purpose or find every problem on your site. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have by law that cannot be limited.

10. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profit, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim (which is nothing if you use a free plan). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

You are responsible for what you do with Site Medic, including for any claim made against us because you checked a site you had no right to check, and you agree to cover us for it.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. For a change that matters we will tell you by email or in the service before it takes effect. If you keep using Site Medic after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the service and ask us to delete your account.
